Secretary to Delta state government, Hon Festus Ovie Agas has said that the present administration places high premium in the development of education in the state.
Hon. Agas stated this in Asaba when the executive members of the Association of Primary School Teachers of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit.
The Secretary to the State government noted that inspite of the dwindling economic situation in the country, government will continue to do its best towards ensuring that the welfare of teachers were met, adding that primary education was the foundation upon which future educational careers are built.
He commended the group for choosing Delta as venue for their annual meeting and workshop and urged them to maintain the existing cordial relationship between the teachers and the State government.
Earlier in his speech, the national president of the Association, Alhaji Lawal Mahmud, said they were in the state for their annual meeting and workshop in a bid to advancing good teaching and learning in Nigerian Primary schools.
While commending the state government for the wonderful achievements in the development of the educational sector in the state, Alhaji Mahmud thanked the present administration for intervening in the affairs of primary school teachers aimed at cushioning their economic hardship.
He urged the state government to continue to support the teachers in the state saying that it would go a long way to strengthen them on their job.
Present during the meeting included the Special Adviser to the Governor on SERVICOM and Labour Relation, Comr. Mike Okeme as well as the Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour Relations, Comr. Jonathan Ojobu.
