GOV. UDUAGHAN URGES NIGERIANS TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORTING ACTIVITIES SO AS TO REDUCE STRESSDelta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has urged Nigerians to participate in sporting activities so as to keep fit and reduce stress related illnesses.
The governor said this yesterday [9-1-14] in Asaba at the grand finale of the 2013 Inter-Department football Tournament [Governor’s Cup] of the Directorate of Government House and Protocol.
He explained that engaging in sporting activities even if it is walking would help people to reduce stress related illnesses and promote a healthy workforce stressing that “a healthy and physically fit workforce will increase productive ,I therefore call on all public servants to get involved in any sort of sporting activity to maintain their fitness”.
While explaining that the football tournament was initiated to ensure that workers of the Directorate keep fit and were healthy, he commended the participating teams especially the ladies and promised that the tournament would be sustained as it has achieved its set goals.
The governor urged all staff of the Directorate to participate in the tournament as it would enhance their productivity.
In a brief remark, the Permanent Secretary Government House and Protocol, Mr. Tony Obuh stated that the tournament was an initiative of the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan with the sole purpose of promoting the health of the staff of the Directorate.
He harped on the improved cooperation and unity exhibited by the staff of the Directorate since its inception and commended Governor Uduaghan for the initiative.
Mr. Obuh also commended the participating teams for their involvement in the tournament.
The Protocol Department defeated the Transport/Catering Department by 4- 2 goal margin via penalties in a hard fought match when ended 1-1 after 90 minutes to clinch the coveted first place trophy.
Highlights of the competition were the presentation of medals and trophies.
