Government of Delta State and Ika South Local Government Area have been commended for the cordial relationship existing between Hausa cattle dealers in Agbor and their host community.
This commendation was given by the Chairman of Agbor cattle market, Alhaji Ahmed Yunus, when news men paid a visit to the cattle market.
Commenting on the cordial relationship existing between the cattle market and Agbor as the host community, Alhaji yunus said that since the inception of the market peace has always reigned between them.
He said although little friction arises between the Hausa community and farmers due to cattle that sometimes encroach into farm lands, such frictions are amicably settled thereby bringing about sustainable peaceful atmosphere.
Alhaji Yunus disclosed that the cattle market has given employment to indigenes and non-indigenes, directly and indirectly.
The cattle market which attracts buyers from all nook and cranny of Delta state and beyond has also succeeded in automatically opening another market where all types of commodities are traded in, thereby empowering a lot of women.
In terms of keeping the environment clean, Alhaji Yunus disclosed that the market embarked on a daily environmental sanitation in addition to the state compulsory environmental sanitation days.
In a related development Donkey market otherwise known as ‘Jacky’ is highly competing with cattle market in Agbor.
People come from far and wide to buy ‘Jacky meat’ either as fresh meat or smoked meat.
Although, a lot of people detest the meat yet patronage of the meat in Agbor is increasing on a daily basis.
Recently, the purchase of the said meat gained a tremendous increase as people have started exporting the hides and skin of Jacky meat to China.
In a market survey made recently, it was discovered that hides and skin of a donkey now sells betweenN22,000 to N25,000 and people from China and Nigeria are already investing into this lucrative business thereby making Jacky meat to become costly.
