The Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa has described the establishment of the Delta Commercial City Project at Asaba as laudable and a welcome development which fits squarely in his administration promise of prosperity for all Deltans as encapsulated in the SMART agenda.
Senator Okowa spoke through his deputy, Barr (Dcn.) Kingsley Burutu Otuaro today (20/04/2016) in Asaba while playing host to a group of foreign experts handling the Delta Commercial City Project coordinated by Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr. Kingsley Emu.
The Governor said the component of the SMART agenda is not only to create wealth and provide job opportunities for the teaming unemployed Deltans but to also transform our environment through massive urban renewal projects.
Stating that his administration cannot achieve all these on its own, it is therefore imperative to allow a window for public participation in this venture stressing that valuable structures have been put in place in the state to enhance the desires of public participation in transforming the state through massive infrastructural development and accelerated industrialization.
“So I want to say that the Delta Commercial City Project that has been at the pipe line is a laudable one and it is a welcome development and fit squarely into our promise of prosperity as contained in our SMART agenda for our people “he noted
The Governor assured the project experts of Delta State co-operation, he called on the state economic management team to give enabling hands to the experts and consultants of the project to ensure that the administration`s expectation on the Delta Commercial City Project is achieved.
In his comments, Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr. Kingsley Emu, noted that Delta Commercial City Project would be sited on a piece of land measuring three hundred and sixty hectare, between the old and new Onitsha bridges.
Dr. Kingsley Emu disclosed that Delta State Government are in partnership with experts from other countries notably China stressing that this agreement was entered so as not to compromise the objective and interest of the state as the management of the project is left for the experts.
Also contributing on the project, Oluwale Rhodes Vivaun, Chairman/CEO, Al Hoda Property and Contracting Services, Limited, commended Delta State Government for her show of maximum political will towards the project, stating that the project when completed would be a city of its own with renewable energy source, schools, hospital and stores.
