ROAD USAGE RALLY HELD IN AGBOR
Nigerians
have been cautioned on the need for safe driving and careful usage of the road
by pedestrians.
This
word of caution was given by Mr. Edwin Mojekwu, team leader, south/south of
Global Outdoor System, during a sensitization rally on the need to drive safely
at Agbor town.
Mr. Edwin Mojekwu, who said that his agency is working in partnership
with Federal Road Safety Commission, said that the mandate of his agency is to
sensitize Nigerians on the need for safe driving in order to reduce accident to
the barest minimum.
He further
disclosed that sensitization on safe driving is not just for drivers alone but
for every human being.
He said
that children are in a better position to receive the sensitization because
when the message is inculcated into them, they will grow up with the message
and strive harder to obey the rules of safe driving.
He
advised that people should not make or answer calls while driving, instead one
should pull over whenever he has to make or answer calls and emphasized the
need for seat belts and other road safety habits.
He
disclosed that the agency has covered about four states in South/South geo-political
zones so far.
Speaking
during the sensitization, the representative of FRSC, Esther Okoh, said the
team has been going from park to park to preach the message of safe driving.
Mr. Mojekwu revealed that very soon, a
device to check over speeding will be introduced into the country and that
every vehicle must have it.
One of the drivers of Agurefure Motors,
Mr. Emmanuel Oghenovo, used the opportunity to call on private car owners to
adhere strictly to road safety tips because they are always guilty of these
offences.
He particularly pointed out that many
private car owners are guilty of and making answering phone calls while
driving.
