TRANSPORT DIRECTORATE, STAKEHOLDERS MEET ON PASSENGERS’ WELFARE SCHEME
Delta State Commissioner for transport, Mr. Vincent Uduaghan has charged all stakeholders concerned with the Passenger Welfare Scheme approved by the State Government to tie up all loose ends in order for the Scheme to commence in earnest.
Mr. Uduaghan gave the charge in an enlarged meeting with stakeholders while brainstorming on how to see that the Scheme is perfectly rooted to the benefit of passengers and the State Government in the areas of data gathering held in his office in Asaba.
He charged the Managing Director of Sign International Limited, Mr. Prince Amos Dafe who is in charge of the Scheme to be steadfast in attending to issues that may arise as it may concern the payment of compensation to passengers.
The Commissioner further enjoined all stakeholders to come up with useful ideas that would give the Scheme the needed boost, stressing that the Scheme had been in existence in the State since 2002.
Permanent Secretary in the Directorate, Mr. Edwin Abraka, stated that the support of the Directorate was assured with the Consultant as far as the rules of engagement are kept, adding that the planning stage would be urgent and thorough in order to achieve success.
In his speech, Prince Amos Dafe applauded the State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa’s initiative for regarding the safety and wellbeing of passengers as a priority and equally making sure that passengers don’t suffer in case of road crash.
He further assured that passengers involved in road crash will benefit from the Passengers Welfare Scheme, but stressed that the manifest must be authenticated to ascertain the names of individuals.
The consultant promised the Commissioner that he would come up with a comprehensive programme that would cement the implementation of the Scheme.
Present during the meeting was the Director of land transport, Engr. Victor Omoniyi and other staff of the Directorate.
