National association of tomatoes and pepper farmers, Delta state chapter, has said it will complement the state government’s effort towards ensuring food security in the state; by making sure there is an increase in the production of tomatoes, pepper and cucumber.
The Association made the promise during the its general meeting held in Warri-north council secretariat Koko.
According to the spokesperson of the association, Comrade Edward Odeworitse Obonrighomi, the association has been able to go to the grassroots to recruit farmers in order to foster increase in tomatoes, pepper and cucumber production in the state.
He further disclosed that it has acquired 10 hectares of land in Ubiaroko and five hectares in Jesse for the production of tomatoes, pepper and cucumber.
Responding, the Warri-North Caretaker Committee Chairman, Evangelist David Ewetan Edun thanked the farmers for their effort towards boosting agriculture, saying it is in line with the mantra "Delta beyond oil" of His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.
Edward, however, said the association will in no distant time source for loan from the state and federal government in order to enhance higher productivity in tomatoes, pepper and cucumber production in the state.
