Chairman and members of the Civil Service Commission have been commended for their effort in bringing discipline, wiping out delays in treating matters as well as eliminating lobbing for promotion in the State.
The commendation was made by the members of Nigerian Statistical Association, Delta State chapter (NSA) when they paid a courtesy visit to the commission recently.
They congratulated the Chairman of the Commission, Dame Nkem Okwuofu and the Commissioner on their appointment and said it was a well deserved one which came as a result of their individual accomplishments and integrity.
In his address, the President of the Association, Mr. Uchono Wilfred, noted that Statisticians in the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics (DPRS) of the State Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have been marginalized and pleaded that the Commission should use their good offices to address this long standing problem.
He also requested the Chairman to assist them with the establishment of the Delta Bureau of Statisticians in the State, since it was mandatory by the national Statistics Master plan, that all states should establish one.
Dame Okwuofu while responding stated that she was already aware of the challenges faced by the Statisticians, but advised them to pursue it further from where they stopped to a logical end.
She added that she understood their need for recognition and career progression pointing out that as a Commission, they can only be guarded by Law so as to be protected and urged the body to work together in unity to enable them succeed in their endeavours.
Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of Statistical Publication of the body to the Chairman by the Director of Statistics in the Ministry of Economic Planning, Mr. Joe Odhoghi.
Commissioners of the Commission present at the meeting were Dr. Eddy Ugboma, Lady Roseline Amioku, Pastor Ifeanyi Agbeyeki and Mr. Mattew Ukey, and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Arthur-Prest Umukoro.
